ABOUT THE FILM — Inspired by the incredible true story, Possum Trot follows Donna and Reverend Martin as they ignite a movement of compassion in their East Texas church to adopt some of the most difficult-to-place kids in the foster system. After 22 families adopt 77 children, the Martins lead the charge to prove that faith, community, and perseverance have the power to change the lives of children everywhere. Joshua Weigel’s moving debut feature is co-written by Rebekah Weigel and stars Nika King (in her feature debut), Demetrius Grosse, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Diaana Babnicova.
NIKA KING
Nika King’s talents as a comedian and actor are versatile and dynamic. She is best known for her comedic abilities and in her breakout role playing Leslie Bennett, on the Emmy winning series, “Euphoria,” where King showcases a more dramatic side of herself. King’s comedy has landed her roles on Kevin Hart’s “Guide to Black History,” the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal and hosting “Nika King & Friends,” a monthly show at the Improv Lab in Hollywood. In 2021, she established Rose of Sharon, a 501c3 with the mission to improve the mental health for individuals and families from underserved communities through plant based eating. While King has a passion for acting, community and producing, her talents do not end there. Last but certainly not least of King’s long list of career attributes is her co-founded vegan soul food restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, the Blue Tree Café.
