My Genesis is an exhibition of large-scale charcoal works on cloth, screen-prints, and assemblage. Barnes work displays concepts of race, identity, and isolation. This show examines self-reflection and inevitable truths of being a black woman in America today. Genesis references a beginning. Barnes reflects on her life, sourcing from historical iconography and personal narrative to further interoperate these realities of her identity.
Taylor Barnes currently lives and works in Denton, Texas. She serves as a Teaching Fellow in the Fibers Program at the University of North Texas and anticipates the completion of her Fibers MFA in May 2019.
